It was 1993 and I was in the sixth grade, probably 11 at the time. I was not an athlete, like my sister. I was the nerd. I was reading and writing at an above-average level, and teachers groomed me into excelling in Academics.
Be a leader not a follower.
Be a follower. Its the smartypants way to prepare yourself for your leadership role.
If someone is where you strive to be, it makes sense to watch her closely and find out what worked for her. Being a skilled follower saves time and prevents costly rookie mistakes.
How To Be A Skilled Follower
First off, leaders aren’t just the ones sitting at the top. If they’re ahead of you, they’re leading the way. It pays to follow the lead of those at different phases on the same journey. Each one will provide you with valuable insight.

Andrea Scott, owner of skoah, and Kelly Findlay, Finance Vice President of Imperial Metals, were the two speakers at the “Giving Back” event at Momcafe Tricities. Andrea and Kelly have each started their own charity organizations and are giving back to the community in a big way. Even if starting your own charity is not on your to-do list, these ladies were great examples of how to maximize your impact on the community.
Yesterday Momcafe Vancouver had their own version of the popular TV show “Dragon’s Den”, cleverly coined “The Lion’s Lair”. The four business savvy “Lions” have impressive resumes and a ton of great advice.
The Mom Inc Movement event, which took place yesterday, showed mothers that babies and business don’t have to be worlds apart. Today’s Mama’s Music Mantra reminds mothers that we can have it all. The song pick: Who Run the World by Beyonce. Now turn up those speakers, click play, and read on!
