Mama Said There’ll Be Days Like This
This Monday, Mama’s Music Mantra didn’t quite make it up on the blog. In fact, its been quiet on this front for a while. But as they say, better late than never. Today’s song pick: Mama Said by Shirelles. Now turn up those speakers, click play, and read on!
Mantra: “Mama said there’ll be days like this. Don’t you worry.”
In the past couple of weeks I have been introduced to the heartbreak that comes along with parenting. My little girl has had a rough bout of viruses and bacteria attacking her helpless little body. Those creatures are soo damn lucky that I can’t see them or else I’d wring their necks for torturing Tiana! It was painful watching a usually-dancing-laughing-cheeky monkey, barely having enough energy to blink. The lack of appetite threatened to take the chub from her cheeks and her soft skin was covered in a rash. 🙁 To top it all off, the poor munchkin had the doctors and nurses poking at her and now she is traumatized at the sight of a stethoscope.
I’ve had my dose of high fevers and emergency situations as a child. I remember seeing the pain in my parents’ eyes. But nothing could’ve prepared me for this. As for my husband, I had to talk him out of turning into the Incredible Hulk on the nurse every time she came around with a needle or a catheter.
But now all is well and Tiana is blowing raspberries on my leg as I type. I thank my lucky stars for Tiana’s good overall health. I know that was only the first of many more heartbreaking parenting moments to come. But it gives me peace knowing that those days are only a small fraction of a lifetime (phew!).
It’s all part of the process right?
What has been your most difficult parenting moment?
