A Peek into the Process: Making the Rosebud Tutu
Valentine’s Day was around the corner and cupids were in full attack mode. Everywhere I turned I saw hearts, flowers, and lipstick kissy marks. It was time for another Tutu Mama tutu! I knew my design was going to be:
1. Valentine’s-inspired; and
2. versatile enough to wear any day of the year.
Sparkles n’ Sequins n’ Feathers! O my!
Time for another trip to the fabric store. I rang up Carla, a friend who is always ready to lend a hand, and that day I needed two, otherwise, things could get a little crazy if I attempted to make that trip alone with Tiana.
I wandered the aisles looking for the perfect materials while Tiana was busy being dazzled by all the sights, sounds, and textures. In fact, she was distracted enough to give Aunty Carla a chance to dress her up in a leopard print cowboy hat and feather boa…(I promised Tiana I wouldn’t post that photo).
After mulling over which shade of pink tulle to choose for over an hour, Tiana’s vocal chords made it clear that the glitter and sequins had gotten old. Suddenly the decision was a breeze! I headed home eager to see if the finished product would look as good as I had pictured.
Say Cheese! Please…?
The pretty pinkish-mauve tulle paired perfectly with the belt of baby pink rosebuds (hence the name). Now to capture my latest handmade tutu on camera. The final step before the reveal is the photo shoot with Ami Sanyal Photography. Although this time, sitting up was not an issue, Tiana did not have her game face on. But who could blame a teething baby?
I pulled out all the funny noises and funny faces in attempt to crack a smile. All I got were a few seconds of bewildered eyes before she started whining again. I even resorted to the likes of Ross n’ Rachel’s desperate measures to make baby Emma laugh.
At the end of the day, we were thrilled with the results! A big hug and many kisses to all of those who made this process so full of love and laughs.
