You may have heard about this ancient apparatus they call the “neti pot” that promises to improve your life by flushing your sinuses. If you think that sticking a teapot in your nose hardly sounds appealing, I agree. But after four months of using it, I can honestly say that I never would’ve imagined the effects to be so life-changing!

I used to think that teapots belong in the kitchen. But now I can tell you that if any of the following five scenarios describe you, then you need to do yourself a favor and get a neti pot.

1) You’ve gone through life as a mouth-breather – life is so much better when you can breathe through your nose! For one, you don’t ruin a steamy smooch when you come up for air like a half-drowned kitty.

2) You’re a (lucky) nose-breather – your nose is working overtime with all the pollution and other nasty chemicals that invade our air. Noses were not made to filter such particles.

3) You look like a haggard mom – neti pot significantly reduces dark circles and puffiness around the eyes—mighty appreciated for the ninety-nine reasons why you lose sleep as  a mom.

4) You can’t think straight – if motherhood has you in a tizzy, you need to routinely flush your nose. Seriously. In ancient times, yogis believed that clear nasal passages enabled clear thinking. Well before learning that tidbit, I discovered the awesome advantage of meditating, planning out my day, and even writing a blog post, after a flushing of my sinuses.

5) You don’t enjoy having a cold – winter is around the corner and since kids so generously share the virus, you are bound to catch it…if you don’t use a neti pot, that is!

Since you’re human, you can relate to a few of the above. So now that you know you will benefit from it…

How To Use A Netipot

  1. Boil water and let cool to body temperature.
  2. Fill neti pot with the water and add in a pinch of non-iodized salt. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Stand over a sink, and tilt your head to one side.
  4. Take in a few practice breaths through your mouth to be conscious about not breathing in through the nose while using neti pot.
  5. Place the end of the spout of the neti pot into your top nostril.
  6. Tip it (like pouring tea) until the water flows slowly into your nostril and out the other.
  7. Let flow for about 20 seconds.
  8. Switch sides and repeat.

Commit to it once a day for a month and you’ll never look back.

What has held you back from making neti pot a part of your routine?
